Soterios Gyftopoulos, MD, is an Assistant Professor at NYU Langone Medical Center/Hospital for Joint Diseases Department of Radiology, specializing in musculoskeletal radiology. He has conducted a wide range of orthopaedic studies and reviews on the radiologic evaluation of common shoulder ailments, diagnostic errors in the imaging interpretation, new low-dose radiation protocols for CT scans, and the replacement of CT with MRI for common shoulder injuries. He is also a member of the Center for Healthcare Innovation and Delivery Science at NYU Langone Medical Center.


Dr. Gyftopoulos’ research interests include appropriate use of imaging in the evaluation of common orthopaedic injuries and ailments in order to improve the value of radiology to patients and clinicians. He focuses in particular on outcomes, health services, shoulder instability, and rotator cuff injuries.
